A beautiful and sentimental Victorian ring. Designed in rich buttery 18 carat gold and carrying one of the era's most enduring messages of love and remembrance.
Across the front of the ring, the word 'Mizpah' is applied in raised gold lettering, with a star set garnet sparkling at its centre. The warm, deep red of the garnet provides a striking focal point, beautifully complementing the buttery tones of the gold.
The word 'Mizpah' comes from the Bible (Genesis 31:49) and became an immensely popular sentiment during the Victorian period. It translates to 'May the Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another' making Mizpah jewellery a cherished token exchanged between loved ones separated by distance, whether family, friends, or sweethearts.
Elegant in its simplicity yet profound in its meaning, this ring is a wonderful example of the Victorian love for jewellery that conveyed heartfelt emotion through jewellery.
