Vintage Dragon Signet Ring 9 Carat gold; Circa 1961

A substantial mid century signet ring. This vintage ring dates to 1961 and has been crated in rich 9 carat gold. With its heavy weight and generous proportions, it has a wonderfully satisfying presence on the hand.

The ring is centred with a classic oval gold signet panel, which has been intricately carved with an ornate heraldic dragon. Beneath the dragon is the Latin motto ‘TRUDITUR DIES DIE’, which translates literally as ‘day is pushed forth by day’, conveying the idea that one day hurries on another. It is a wonderfully sentiment for a signet ring. 

Although dating from 1961, the ring draws heavily on much older traditions of heraldry and engraved signet jewellery. The combination of the heraldic dragon, Latin motto and substantial gold construction gives it a timeless feel.
