Vintage Lapis Lazuli Signet Ring 9 Carat gold; Circa 1990

A charming vintage signet ring. Centred with a classic oval signet profile this 9 carat gold ring has so much heritage and a timeless appeal. 

Set into the gold is a rich oval of lapis lazuli, its deep blue surface providing a beautiful backdrop for the engraving. The stone has been carved with a sheaf of harvested wheat, accompanied by the Latin motto ‘NON VI SED VIRTUTE’, meaning ‘Not by force, but by virtue.’

Although the ring is only around 36 years old, its design feels rooted in a much older tradition. The oval stone, heraldic engraving and Latin motto are reminiscent of the centuries old language of signet rings, where jewellery was used to carry so much more than the sum of its parts.
