Vintage Raven Signet Ring in 18 Carat Gold; circa 1976

A beguiling signet ring made in England in 1976. This amazing vintage ring combines a detailed raven with a Latin motto that feels as meaningful today as it did centuries ago.

Created entirely in warm 18 carat gold, the ring features an ornately engraved raven. Beneath the bird sits the inscription “NOS PASCIT DEUS”, translating as “God feeds us”.

The motto is a variation of the Latin phrase Deus pascit corvos ~God feeds the ravens ~ expressing the idea of divine providence and the assurance that even the smallest creatures are provided for. Ravens themselves have long occupied a fascinating place in folklore and mythology, associated with intelligence, mystery and wisdom.

Although made in the 1970s, the ring draws on the much older tradition of engraved signets. The buttery 18 carat gold mount gives it a lovely sense of presence and the design retains the timeless appeal.
