Antique Victorian Locket Mourning Ring

A deeply sentimental Victorian mounting ring, rich in symbolism and history. A real relic from a time long past. 

Dating to the Victorian era and created in 9 carat gold, the ring is designed with a locket style top panel, a hallmark meaningful jewellery from the period.

The surface is decorated with black enamel, centred around a pearl set cross; a motif associated with remembrance, and devotion. The contrast between the dark enamel and soft lustre of the pearls creates a striking appearance.

The top opens to reveal a glazed locket compartment, which still retains the original lock of hair, a deeply personal tribute to a loved one. These hidden compartments were often used to hold hair as a lasting keepsake, making each piece uniquely personal.

CONDITION: The ring is in lovely antique condition with the fine patina of wear to the gold with some enamel loss. The locket is a little loose, it does close but may open if shaken.
